Suzuki Graduation

Graduation is how we acknowledge a student’s completion of a level in the Suzuki repertoire.

1. The student must be a member of the Suzuki association - STEAA (NSW). This allows you access to all Suzuki events (paid or free). To become a member, you need to fill out a family membership form (regardless of the number of children).

2. The student must make a recording of the graduation piece for assessment. We do this in the lesson using the CD for accompaniment. This is then sent to the Suzuki office for an independent assessment of the students’ performance. There is a graduation piece in each Suzuki book for most instruments.

3. Graduation fees – Apart from the membership fee there is a cost of around $100 to graduate level 1 or level 2. This covers the report on the graduation tape; a graduation certificate; and a seat for your child at the venue for the graduation concert.

The graduation system is NOT based on a pass or fail. The graduation is at the discretion of the teacher. I will tell you when you are ready to graduate.

THE ANNUAL GRADUATION CONCERT

Each year we have a large graduation concert which is held at Chatswood Concourse. Students that choose to participate are required to attend rehearsal in the morning with the concert beginning just after lunch. This is a fantastic event where all string students perform the graduation pieces together. There are often over 100 cellists and 700 violinists performing at this concert.

Pianists perform individually in smaller concert rooms. It is a great performance opportunity and students play a piece of their choosing.

If you would like any more information on the graduation system, please do not hesitate to call me or the Suzuki office.
